San Diego Legion James Rivers

San Diego Legion signed James Rivers, their first-round selection (#12) in the 2023 MLR Collegiate Draft, for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old lock is 6’6″ and 255 lbs.

James is from Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom, and attended Clifton College, a boarding school where he played rugby and also 1st 4 for rowing. He moved to Hong Kong where he played for the Discovery Bay Pirates U18s and U19s, and the Flying KuKris Rugby Club in Hong Kong, the latter of which won the U19s International Youth 7s in 2017. He represented Hong Kong U20s at the World Rugby Trophy held in Romania in 2018 and again in 2019.

James attended the University of Arizona from 2019 through 2023 and was the team’s captain his senior year, and MVP during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He was an Economics major with a minor in Sports Management.
