Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

NOLA Gold Rugby Club signed Tesimoni Tongauiha to a two-year contract extension through the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old flanker (26 in October) is 6’2″ and 235 lbs. Moni joined the team after playing rugby 7s and 15s with Life West in 2018. Moni grew up in Oakland, California where he played rugby for the Oakland Warthogs in high school. He then joined the Santa Barbara Rugby Academy and benefited from the coaching of Kevin Battle. The LA Giltinis named Darren Coleman and Stephen Hoiles as their inaugural coaches for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Darren Coleman was born in Kempsey, New South Wales, and was head coach of the Gordon RFC team in Sydney’s Shute Shield competition. He played rugby with the Kempsey Cannonballs team before attending Southern Cross University and playing with the University Gold Rats. He then joined Eastern Suburbs as fly-half in 1995 before playing with the Newcastle Wildfires in 1996-97, and then Northern Suburbs from 1998-2000. Rugby ATL extended the contract of Canadian international Conor Keys through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old lock is 6’6″ and 260 lbs. and will be 24 during the Summer. Conor is from Stittsville, Ontario, and attended Sacred Heart Catholic High School. He began playing rugby at age 10 with the Barrhaven Scottish and later with the Ottawa Ospreys. Rugby United New York retweeted a YouTube interview by Jim Hamilton of The Lockdown with Drew Mitchell, which indicated that Drew had signed a three-year contract to play/coach with the Roosters in Major League Rugby beginning in 2020. That did not come to fruition in 2020 due to the length of time in receiving visa clearance, but he will join the team in 2021. The 36-year-old wing (37 in March 2021) is 6’0″ and 203 lbs. Major League Rugby announced its first-ever Collegiate Draft to be held on June 13 and 14, 2020.
