Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

The Austin Gilgronis re-signed former All Black, Jamie ‘Whoppa’ Mackintosh for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 35-year-old prop (36 in February)  is 6’4” and 290 lbs. Jamie will have a dual role as a player-coach in 2021. Rugby United New York signed Sakaria Taulafo for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 37-year-old (38 in January) loosehead prop is 6’0″ and 275 lbs. ZaK played for the Colorado Raptors in 2020, starting four matches and appearing in the other match as a reserve during the truncated MLR season. The Austin Gilgronis have signed Round Rock, Texas native Christian Ostberg for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old lock has also played blindside flanker and is 6’6″, 254 lbs. Christian was a rugby player at Stony Point High School from 2009-2012and was the captain in 2011 and 2012. Rugby United New York added Wilton Rebolo for the 2021Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old hooker/prop is 6’0″ and 280 lbs. Wilton played for the Austin Herd during the 2020 pre-season, however, an injury derailed his inclusion for the Gilgroins during the truncated regular season. The San Diego Legion re-signed Eagles scrumhalf and wing, Nate Augspurger for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Nate, who is from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is 30-years-old (31 in January), 5’8″, and 180 lbs. He joined the Legion for the inaugural MLR season in 2018 and played 400 minutes in five matches as a starter and scored one try. Rugby United New York signed Joel Miranda for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old fullback/wing is 6’0″ (1.83) and 179 lbs (81 kg). He was born in the United States but lived in Salta, Argentina. He graduated high school in 2014, attending Colegio Santa Teresa de Jesus and is currently majoring in Law at the Catholic University of Salta. Old Glory DC re-signed Canada international Doug Fraser through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old wing is 5’8″ and 205 lbs. In Old Glory DC’s inaugural season, Doug dazzled with side-steps and sudden acceleration down the sidelines. Major League Rugby Release  Major League Rugby (MLR) announced today that Jonathan Kaplan and Chris Pollock will lead the appointment and development of match officials for the 2021 season. Kaplan will also be assisted by Chris Pollock in a technical advisor role. The New England Free Jacks Tadhg Leader returns to the team for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old flyhalf (29 in March) is 6’3″ and 205 lbs. Tadhg’s leadership helped the Free Jacks gain their first MLR victory against Rugby United New York and it was also evident in the Cara Cup exhibition season. Rugby ATL re-signed Maciu Koroi for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old No.8 (26 in February) is 6’2″, 250 lbs and is from Suva, Fiji. During the 2020 MLR season, he was named to the match day roster against NOLA Gold, but did not play. Maciu began playing rugby when he was eight years old and attended Queen Victoria School in Fiji. The Dallas jackals signed Henry Stevenson for the 2021 major League Rugby season. The 20-year-old lock (21 in December) is 6’5″ and 250 lbs. Henry is from Toronto, Canada, and began playing rugby in the seventh grade with the Toronto Nomads Rugby Club. He attended Royal St. George’s College and in 2017 he represented Canada at the Auckland School 7s tournament in New Zealand. USA Rugby Release USA Rugby today announced the opening of registration for the 2020-21 Membership cycle on August 10th. This upcoming competitive year marks the first of a new governance structure where combined dialogue between USA Rugby and the Youth & High School, College, and Senior Club National Councils developed the annual dues structure. Each constituency will open registration at individual times over the next few days.
