Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

The Dallas Jackals received the playing services rights to James Vaifale and NOLA’s 3rd Round Pick in the 2023 MLR Collegiate Draft. James had been drafted by the Chicago Hounds in the 2022 MLR dispersal draft but was not signed, so his signing rights reverted back to NOLA Gold. Chicago Hounds Release The Chicago Hounds confirmed that Sam Harris has been hired as the first head coach in the franchise’s history. The team first announced the signing during their introductory press conference in November. Harris, 42, spent the previous two seasons as the Austin Gilgronis’ (AGs) head coach. He joins James English, who was hired as general manager and chief executive officer, in a leadership tandem for the latest expansion franchise in Major League Rugby. The Utah Warriors re-signed Namibian international Cliven Loubser for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old flyhalf/fullback (26 in February) is 5’9″ and 188 lbs. Cliven played 738 minutes in 11 matches, starting 9, and scored 61 points (2 tries, 15 conversions, 7 penalty goals) for the Utah Warriors in 2022. Siaosi played 22 minutes in 1 match for the Utah Warriors in 2022 and then played for the Warriors Selects. Siaosi is from Independence, Missouri, and attended William Chrisman High School, where he played football as a quarterback, running back, and strong safety. Carlo, who is U.S.-eligible, started 9 times and was the Dallas Jackals team captain once in 2022.
