The inaugural RugbyX tournament, an international Rugby Union tournament approved by World Rugby and the RFU, was held at The O2, London on 29th October 2019. The Women’s Final was won by England over the USA after the one-on-one following the regulation 20-20 tie. This gave England the ball first. They scored three times to two for the USA for the win. The Athlete Factory International Sevens was held on 25-26 October in Chester, England and included last year’s participants England, France, Spain, Ireland and the USA along with South Africa, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Jamaica and an Invitational team, The Ramblin Jesters, this year. The USA Men’s Sevens team won the Plate Final over Hong Kong, with Spain defeating Jamaica for 7th and the Ramblin Jesters beating Nigeria for 9th place. The USA Women’s Sevens have named their squad for RugbyX, a new five-on-five tournament that will be held at The O2 in London on Oct 29. Assistant Coach Warren Abrahams will be the head coach for the event for the USA. The team includes six of the 12 players that recently won gold at home in Glendale, CO for the opening round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, while seven also won silver just before that at the Pan American Games in Lima. USA Men’s Sevens Head Coach Mike Friday has selected a 16-player extended squad for two preseason tournaments in AF International Sevens (Oct 25-26) and RugbyX (Oct 29) which are being held in England. The squad includes a mix of players from the USA Sevens Residency Program, with Carlin Isles, Perry Baker, Danny Barrett, Stephen Tomasin joining others to develop cohesion and to increase depth ahead of the Olympic year ahead. The Oktoberfest Sevens will be held in Munich, Germany at the former Olympic Stadium on September 21-22, 2019. The USA Rugby Club 7s was played at Swope Village in Kansas City this past weekend. There were thirty two teams, sixteen each for the Men’s and Women’s brackets. The San Diego Surfers successfully defended their title in the Women’s competition, while Washington Athletic Club emerged with the Men’s Championship. The tournament was broadcast of florugby.com. The 2019 USA Rugby Club 7s Nationals will be held on August 10-11at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, MO. This past weekend the teams were finalized for Nationals. FloRugby will be broadcasting the event.
