Austin Huns Release: September 6, 2016
The Austin Huns announce an exciting milestone on the road towards their first season of elite rugby in Austin, TX. The team is set to host their first open combine and tryouts for athletes who are hoping to play elite rugby beginning in the Fall of 2016.
The 2-Day combine is in Austin, TX at Huns Field from October 1-2, 2016.
Coaches from all divisions (Elite, D1, D2, D3) of the team will be on site to gauge player athleticism and abilities. Athletes must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the combine. No application is required; however, all athletes must register and pay a $60 fee, which covers lunch, support staff, and a t-shirt. Athletes interested in a future in 15’s or 7’s rugby are welcome to attend the combine.
The combine will be the first opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their skills and abilities to the newly developed elite team. With rugby growing exponentially in the United States, the Austin Huns are seeking to build its player pool while simultaneously offering athletes the opportunity to pursue contracts.
Preseason training will begin the week of October 18th and will run thru December. There will be at least two preseason games, one of which on November 12th vs. USA AIR FORCE XV selection, the other TBA. The official season will start January 2017.
