Ken Pape Named Lander Women’s Rugby Head Coach

Lander Rugby Release

GREENWOOD – Director of Rugby Operations and Lander men’s rugby head coach Buck Billings has announced that Ken Pape will serve as the women’s rugby head coach for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Along with leading the women’s team, Pape will assist the men’s squad this season.

“Ken brings a vast experience of coaching women’s rugby in the U.S from coaching in the high-performance pathway for USA Rugby as well as grassroots level.” said coach Billings. “Our ladies will be in good hands with Ken as their head coach.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to further my coaching career as a Bearcat. I want to thank Athletic Director Brian Reese for his continued support of women’s rugby, Buck Billings for allowing me to be a part of this journey as well as all the student-athletes that have helped make my transition as seamless as possible.” Said coach Pape. “I look forward to competing at the highest level and eventually bringing home a championship back to the Lander community.”

Pape helped guide the women’s team to a 16-5 record last season after serving as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Pape holds a career coaching record of 145-63-2 that spans over a decade of coaching at the collegiate level. Before coming to Greenwood, Pape went 18-5 at Div. III Colby-Sawyer where he oversaw both the 7’s and 15’s teams and helped capture a conference championship.

The Bearcats begin the fall with a visit from Virginia Tech on Saturday, September 3.
