Bowdoin College Athletics Release

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College has announced the hiring of Jake Fautley as head coach of the men’s rugby program.

Most recently the head coach of men’s rugby at Wheeling Jesuit University for the past two seasons, Fautley hails from England, where he began playing rugby at an early age and completed his college degree in Sports Coaching and Sports Education at the University of Gloucestershire. Jake gained further rugby experience through his time with Old Patesians, a National League side in England, for which he played and served as an assistant coach.

After graduating from Gloucestershire, Jake initially worked as a physical education teacher before moving to the United States, where he earned a Masters Degree in Sport Management from Missouri Baptist University. While at Missouri Baptist, Jake served as a Graduate Assistant Track & Field Coach and a Teaching Assistant in Fitness Management and Sports Marketing. Jake is a USA Rugby 300 Level certified coach.

“We are excited to welcome Jake to the Bowdoin community as our new Head Coach of Men’s Rugby,” said Ashmead White Director of Athletics Tim Ryan. “He has a wealth of rugby playing and coaching experience in England which will provide for an exceptional experience for our students within our Club.  This, coupled with Jake’s passion for helping students develop as people and leaders will continue the long tradition of success on and off the pitch for our program.”

“I am extremely thankful for the opportunity that Bowdoin has given me to become the next head coach of their historic and proud men’s rugby program,” said Fautley. “I am very excited to be working with the athletes but also the fellow coaches and administrators of the athletics department. I can’t wait to get started!”
