Austin Elite Rugby Signs Sebastián Kalm

Austin Elite Rugby & Sebastián Kalm

Austin Elite Rugby has announced the signing of Sebastián Kalm to the team for the 2019 Major league Rugby season. Sebastián played college rugby at Lindenwood University, where he was an All-American and captained the team to a National Championship. He played back row with the PRO Rugby Ohio Aviators, where he was the second leading try scorer in the League and was the League’s MVP.

Sebastián Kalm is from Santiago, Chile and played with the Chilean under 20 national teams. He is U.S. eligible having spent over three years in the U.S. His neck injury after his third match while playing for NOLA Gold last year thwarted his ability to play with the National team. That will be a motivating factor with Austin Elite Rugby in 2019.

Prior to playing with NOLA Gold, he played with the Kansas City Blues, 1823 Rugby, and Old Blue in New York.

Austin Elite Rugby Comments

Sebastián indicated that “There is always a sense of nervousness coming back from a more serious injury, like mine. Injuries are always a process both physically and mentally, with the ups and downs, but it’s a part of the job. You work hard, you heal, and you come back better; that is what gets me up every day. I’m blessed and very thankful for Austin Elite Rugby opening their doors, trusting and allowing me to keep expressing myself. We have a lot of work to do and we’re all about fighting through every second of it.”

Luckily, Kalm has made a vast and healthy return to Major League Rugby and we’re thrilled to have him here in Austin. Known for his green scrum cap, Kalm is a force on and off the field and Head Coach Alain Hyardet is excited to have him join our forward pack for the 2019 season.
