San Diego Legion & Nate Augspurger
The San Diego Legion have a spark plug in Eagles scrumhalf and wing, Nate Augspurger. He is from Minneapolis, Minnesota and is 28 years old, 5’8″ tall and weighs 175 pounds.
Augspurger went to Minneapolis Southwest High School before attending college at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities from 2008 until his graduation with a B.A. in Sociology in 2012. He played rugby at the University and was a Collegiate All-American. He also played rugby sevens with the Youngbloodz.
Augspurger has also played club rugby for the East Side Banshees (beginning in high school), Old Blue of New York, the Northeast Academy, and has represented the New York 7s twice. Both times were at the World Club 7s in 2013 and in 2014 in London.
USA Rugby National Team
Nate Augspurger signed a developmental contract with USA Rugby for the 2012-2013 season and trained at Chula Vista. He was invited to the Eagles 7s camp in 2013 and signed a contract with the Eagles 7s for the 2013-2014 season. He made his HSBC World Sevens Series debut in Dubai in 2014 and then played in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He has earned 15 caps for the Eagles 7s team.
Nate has also represented Team USA at the 2015 Pan American Games, earning a Bronze medal. In 2016 he was selected as a traveling reserve for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Nate Augspurger has also played for the Eagles XVs from 2016 to the present. He is Eagle 491 and made his debut against Italy in San Jose, California on June 18, 2016. Since then he has earned 18 caps, starting 16 times at scrumhalf or at wing. He has also been the captain or vice-captain of the team several times. His last test was on March 3, 2018as team captain against Uruguay in Montevideo. The Eagles defended their Americas Rugby Championship title and have won ten consecutive matches.
