The Seattle Seawolves re-signed Kellen Gordon for the 2024 Major League Rugby season, his fifth with the team. The 35-year-old loosehead prop/hooker (36 in April) is 6’2″, and 250 lbs.
Kellen played 181 minutes in 11 matches for the Seawolves during the 2022 season. Since then he has played for Seattle RFC.
Kellen has to wish that 2021 was a fantasy, not the harsh reality of needing to move unexpectedly to Houston to be with his wife who was receiving medical care for a high-risk pregnancy. Kellen trained with Rugby HTX with the approval of both the SaberCats and Seawolves head coaches. He would only play 19 minutes in one match, and an injury, as well as the family issues noted above, curtailed his season.
After rehabilitating much of the year, the Seattle Rugby Club Director of Rugby played in the Coastal Cup this Fall.
In 2020 he played 104 minutes in all five 2020 matches as a reserve for the Seawolves. In 2019 he played 648 minutes in 17 matches, starting 5, and scored 2 tries. He carried 40 times for 206 meters, had 1 linebreak, 2 offloads, and made 79 tackles. In 2018 he played 312 minutes in 9 matches while starting 4 times.
Kellen Gordon was born in Kenmore, Washington, and started playing rugby for Redmond Rugby Club at the age of 15 while at Inglemoor High School between 2004-2006. In high school, he also played varsity football and was an offensive and defensive lineman.
Gordon then played for the Eastside Axemen and the Washington Loggers. After graduating high school, he attended Central Washington University from 2006-2011, graduating with a B.A. in Religion/Religious Studies. He also continued his rugby career in college and in 2010 gained experience training with Canterbury’s International High-Performance Unit in New Zealand.
After graduating in 2011, he won three consecutive Las Vegas 7’s championships in 2013, 2014, and 2015, while playing for the Serevi Selects and has since played for the Seattle Saracens, helping them to win three U.S. National 7’s championships during the same years. He was their captain during the 2017-2018 season. He also returned to the team following the conclusion of the 2018 Major League Rugby season and played in the Fall British Columbia CDI League.
Gordon has also played at the World Club 7s in London with Seattle in August 2014. He has been an assistant coach for Rugby Washington High School Logger in 2016 and has been the Youth Development Manager for Atavus Rugby and also the Program Director for Atavus Rugby Rugby and Football.
