Chicago Hounds Signs Sean Yacoubian

The Chicago Hounds signed Sean Yacoubian for the 2023 Major League Rugby season after obtaining his rights from the New England Free Jacks in exchange for salary cap considerations. The 28-year-old scrumhalf (29 in June) is 5’9″ and 190 lbs.

Sean played 6 minutes in one match for the Free jacks in 2022 before an injury ended his season. He played 51 minutes in 3 matches for the Free Jacks in 2021. After recovering from an injury, he was named to the USA Selects and played in the Americas Pacific Challenge.

Sean played one match as a reserve for the Colorado Raptors during the truncated 2020 MLR season due to COVID-19.

Sean is from Paisley, Scotland, and attended St. Columbia’s School, as well as the University of Strathclyde. He then continued his education in the U.S. at Saint Mary’s College of California from 2017-2019.

He played rugby at Saint Columbia High School’s 1st XV before progressing through the Glasgow District age-grade levels. He was part of the Scotland U20s extended squad before playing 2014 in the final U20 6 Nations match against Wales at Colwyn Bay in March 2014.

Sean also played for the Glasgow Hawks in 2010 with the U17s and continued through the Senior team, as well as making an appearance for the Glasgow Warriors Sevens.

Sean attended Saint Mary’s College of California from 2017-2019, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. He helped the Gaels advance to the USA Rugby D1A quarterfinals both seasons, and Saint Mary’s honored him as their 2019 MVP and Ironman Award winner. He also was a first-team Collegiate All-American in 2018 and 2019 and helped the team gain a win against an All-Canada University XV in 2019.
