The USA Rugby Club 7s was played at Swope Village in Kansas City this past weekend. There were thirty two teams, sixteen each for the Men’s and Women’s brackets. The San Diego Surfers successfully defended their title in the Women’s competition, while Washington Athletic Club emerged with the Men’s Championship. The tournament was broadcast of florugby.com. The 2019 USA Rugby Club 7s Nationals will be held on August 10-11at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, MO. This past weekend the teams were finalized for Nationals. FloRugby will be broadcasting the event. The USA Men’s Rugby Sevens Team beat Brazil in extra time 24-19 to win the Bronze medal, while Argentina beat Canada 33-10 to win Gold. Mount St Mary’s Release The Mount Rugby High School High-Performance Academy returned to action this past weekend at the Surfside 7s Tournament in Stone Harbor, NJ. The team looked to continue their strong summer campaign after a 2nd place finish at Collegiate Rugby Championships in the high school division.  Coach Mike Williams and the squad arrived in New Jersey on Friday evening in preparation for the single-day tournament on Saturday. The third leg of the Men’s Northeast Sevens was won by Mystic River Rugby Club with a 26-17 victory over Old Blue 26-17.Fairfield Yankees were in third place with Mystic River 2 in fourth. The Men’s Northeast Sevens Standings have Old Blue in first place with 63 points, Mystic River in second with 60 points, and the Fairfield Yankees in third place with 49 points. It appears that Old Blue and Mystic River will represent the Northeast in the USA Club Sevens Nationals. The Fairfield Yankees would need to win the Saratoga Sevens on July 20 with either Old Blue…

Mexico defeated Jamaica 19-15 to win the 2019 Rugby Americas North Sevens. Both teams qualified to the Repechage tournament next June. The winner of that tournament will qualify for the 2020 Olympics. The Rugby Americas North Sevens consisted of a five round-robin tournament followed by a match for 5th/6th, 3rd/4th, and for 1st/2nd place. Canada Men’s Rugby went undefeated in the 2019 Rugby Americas North Sevens and secured a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They join host Japan, Argentina and the HBSC Sevens Series top four in Fiji, USA, New Zealand, and South Africa. Canada swept Pool A in beating Barbados 47-0, Mexico 49-5, and Bermuda 55-0. They continued in the Quarterfinals beating Guyana 47-5, in the Semifinals over Bermuda 55-0, and in the Finals against Jamaica 40-5.
