Ontario Arrows & Boston Mystics
The Ontario Arrows had a dominant 77-8 win against the Boston Mystics in their home opener at York University on May 5 with the match streamed on the Ontario Arrows YouTube Channel. On April 21, the teams met in Maiden, MA with the Arrows winning 29-19.
With the loss, the Boston Mystics ended their 2018 professional rugby season. Mystic River Rugby Club D1 side will move on next week to play the Norfolk Blues, who defeated Rocky Gorge 29-21 in the USA Rugby D1 Championships at the Fortress in Obetz, Ohio.
Meanwhile, the Ontario Arrows will extend their season against Canada Selects on May 18 in Toronto, ON & on May 26 in Langford, BC in preparation for Canada’s upcoming 2018 Summer Series.
Match Recap
The Ontario Arrows used a 12 try effort to defeat the Boston Mystics 77-8 at York University. Kainoa Lloyd had 4 tries and captain Mike Sheppard had a hat trick in leading the Arrows.
Kainoa Lloyd struck first with a try in the corner for a 5-0 lead. Boston then cut the lead to 5-3 by a penalty kick by Santiago Bertranou.
The Arrows mauled their way in-goal for a Mike Sheppard try and after the conversion by Will Kelly, the score was 12-3. Soon after Kelly slotted a kick pushing the lead to 15-3.
Lloyd added a second try, which was not converted and then Kolby Francis and Mike Sheppard added tries with Kelly converting both for a 34-3 lead at the break.
Second Half
Early in the second half, Sheppard gained a hat-trick, running through three defenders and Kolby Francis added his second from a line break, with Kelly again converting pushing the lead to 48-3.
Jon West scored after a sustained possession with Kelly bouncing the ball off the posts and over for the conversion. Lloyd then added a second hat-trick for the Arrow with Kelly converting for a 62-3 lead.
The Arrows scored two more tries by Andrew Wilson and with Lloyd adding his fourth in the corner and the score was 72-3.
Vini Daley broke the assault with a try for the Boston Mystics to cut the lead to 72-8 as the drop goal attempt for the conversion by Matías de Paolis went wide.
In the final minute, Andrew Wilson would gain a second try for the 77-8 victory.
