The past several days were spent in San Diego with family and friends at a wedding. I was glad that I had the opportunity to spend some time again with Ryan Matyas at the resort where I was staying to share his rugby-playing journey and his transition to coaching rugby.

Ryan played rugby professionally for seven years and for the USA Men’s National Team in XVs 14 times and in 7s in six tournaments. He’s coached youth, college, club, and Academy rugby. He also has been a commentator for the sport.

View the interview to learn more about Ryan! By traveling, I did not have my microphones and tripod and relied on holding my iPhone.

Ryan Matyas is the new San Diego State Head Men’s Rugby Coach. He was on the USA National Team in both XVs and 7s, played professionally on the San Diego Breakers and San Diego Legion, and had extensive coaching experience. He discusses his transition from playing rugby to coaching.

I interviewed Ryan Matyas after a Major League Rugby match with Rugby United New New York facing San Diego Legion in New York on April 14, 2019, at MCU Park. Ryan, who played for San Diego Legion discussed how San Diego fostered his rugby goals, MLR season 2, & challenges of being a rugby spouse.
