Rugby United New York Harry Bennett 2020 Profile

Rugby United New York re-signed Harry Bennett for the 2020 season. The 29-year-old flyhalf/fullback is 5’10” and 190 lbs. The Rooster #31 will be 30 at the end of March.

Harry played in 279 minutes in 9 matches, made 3 penalty goals, and kicked 15 times for 479 meters. He also carried 10 times for 50 meters, made 47 passes, and 26 tackles. He started for RUNY’s first exhibition match against the Ontario Arrows in 2018, but an injury sustained during the match curtailed the rest of his season.

Following the 2019 MLR season, Harry played for NYAC Rugby in the American Rugby Premiership.

Harry is from Scone, New South Wales, Australia. He is 28-years-old, 5’11”, and 195 lbs. and has played flyhalf, inside center, or fullback. He attended King’s College in Parramatta and also has attended the University of South California.

Harry played at King’s College and representative rugby for the Australian Schoolboys in 2009. He also played for the Super Rugby NSW Waratahs Junior Squad, while playing for Eastern Suburbs, which plays in the Intrust Super Shute Shield.

He played his final season with Eastern Suburbs in 2014 and at the end of the season toured with the Australian Barbarians. With the latter team, Harry played against the Australia Under-20s.

Harry moved to the U.S. in 2015 and played for Santa Monica in the Pacific Rugby Premiership, winning PRP Rookie of the Year honors. He also helped the Gentlemen of Aspen win the 2015 Ruggerfest.

In 2016 was the starting flyhalf for the Sacramento Express. Following the season, he moved to New York and played with New York Athletic Club in the 2016 American Rugby Premiership. The team had an outstanding season and advanced to the USA Rugby National Championship Final. He has played with NYAC since then, except for playing with RUNY in their first MLR exhibition season match in 2018 against the Arrows.

Harry is a versatile back and will provide the depth needed for the 16-match MLR season in 2019. His leadership and accurate kicking will be utilized in the club. He is a veteran and will also contribute to the Academy.

Harry has a rugby coaching experience. He was the Assistant Varsity and Backs Coach at Fordham Prep.
