Rugby United New York Signs Cormac Daly

Rugby United New York signed Cormac Daly ahead of the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 21-year-old lock is 6’6″ and 250lbs.

Cormac is from Kildare, Ireland and excelled and rugby and Gaelic football as a youth. He achieved success at Gaelic football for Kilcock GAA working his way up through age level to the senior team and helping the latter reach the Intermediate Championship.

He also achieved success with rugby and in 2017 won the Under-20 All Ireland competition with Navan. This led to Leinster inviting Daly to represent the club from Under-18s where he advanced to the Under-20s and eventually appeared for Leinster A.

From 2017-2019 he played age-grade rugby for the Ireland Under-20s and played in the Junior World Cup. He also played in the 2018 Under-20 Six Nations tournament.

Since 2018 Cormac has played with the Connacht Eagles, Connacht’s development team, playing in the Celtic Cup.

“It’s a huge opportunity to represent one of the biggest cities in the world,” the 21-year-old Daly shared. “I’m looking forward to immersing myself into the culture that New York and RUNY have to offer.”

“Cormac is one of the best young second rows in Ireland,” Head Coach Greg McWilliams continued. “I believe, for the style we’re trying to play, and the level of competition in the MLR, Cormac is going to be very important to Rugby United New York.”
