San Diego Legion Signs Peter Malcolm

San Diego Legion signed Peter Malcolm for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old hooker is 6’1″ and 240 lbs.

Peter was signed by Austin Elite Rugby for the inaugural 2018 MLR season. He was named captain, however, a pre-season knee injury derailed his playing during 2018. He returned to the team in 2019 and played in eight second half of the season matches.

Peter graduated from Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida where he played both rugby and football. Upon graduation, he continued playing rugby at Wheeling Jesuit University where he was named a Collegiate All American.

Malcolm was also selected to play with the USA Falcons at the Halloween 7s that was held in St. Petersburg, Florida on October 31 and November 1, 2015. Developmental national sides from the USA, Argentina and Canada, as well as current Academy sides, Tiger Rugby, Rugby Utah and the Denver 7s also participated. This tournament provided high-performance opportunities for athletes and a selection vehicle for inclusion in the HSBC Sevens Series.

Malcolm has earned 11 caps for the US Eagles and is Eagle 505. He was named for the Eagles 2019 Americas Rugby Championship squad, but his return from injury impacted his selection.

Peter is a versatile player, as he played hooker and flanker in the inaugural PRO Rugby season with the Ohio Aviators. Malcolm has adjusted well to the city of Austin, where he helped lead the Austin Huns to win the USA Club National Championship.

More accomplishments

Peter captained the USA Men’s Collegiate All-Americans against Oxford University on September 16, 2017, at Talen Energy Stadium, in Chester, PA. This was played prior to the Aviva Premiership Rugby match between the Newcastle Falcons and the Saracens.

After the match, he was named to the USA Rugby Selects that played in the Americas Pacific Challenge in Uruguay, Oct. 7-15, 2017. The team played Samoa A, Uruguay A and Canada A on Oct. 7, 11, and 15, respectively.
