The Canadian Maple Leafs emerged with a 15-10 win over the USA Rugby Women’s AIG Collegiate All-Americans yesterday on the strength of three first half tries. They will meet again on July 9th at 11am MT at Salt Lake City, Utah.

The USA Collegiate All-Americans took an early 3-0 lead in the 19th minute on a Tess Feury penalty kick.

Canada then gained momentum in in putting over three unanswered tried prior to halftime. Julia Goss had the first at the 30th minute, as the Maple Leafs moved the ball wide. In the 38th minute, Elysa Sandron found a gap for a try. Finally, an offload by maple Leaf captain Lori Josephson sprung Alanna Fittes for the third try prior to halftime. Fittes was not successful on the conversions.

At halftime Canada held a 15-3 lead, but forward passes prevented two other tries.

During the second half, the USA narrowed the gap with a Kaitlyn Broughton try at the 75th minute with Feury adding the conversion. That would be the last score of the match, as Canada held on for a 15-10 win over the All-Americans.
