Pacific Northwest Rugby Football Union Men’s Club Division Changes for the 2015-2016 Season

Doug Coil June 4, 2015

Changes will be occurring for Men’s Club Rugby in the Pacific Northwest. At the Annual General Meeting this past weekend, “it was voted by the men’s members to split the men into 3 divisions, 6 D1, 8 D2 and 7 or remainder in D3.” Clubs were selected based on the final standings from the past season.

The decision to move from 2 divisions to 3 divisions was made to help with the wide range of caliber of play within each division. The majority felt it was time to get back into D1 and that the Pacific Northwest Rugby Football Union would not progress without doing so. The vote for moving to 3 divisions was almost unanimous.

The Divisions are as follows:

D1

Snake River

Oregon Sports Union

Valley Kangaroos

Chuckanut Bay Geoducks

Pacific Rovers

Eastside Axemen

D2

Portland Pigs D2

Eastside Tsunami

Tacoma Nomads

Salem Spartans

Battleground Bulls

Bend Roughriders

Budd Bay Buffaloes

Seattle Quake D2

D3

Oregon Sports Union D3

Portland Pigs D3

Corvallis Brewers

Eugene Stags

43rd State Crimson Lions

Seattle Quake D3

Kitsap Renegades

This past year, the D2 Division consisted of 9 teams, while the D3 Division had 11. In the new configuration, 6 of the previous D2 clubs moved to D1, while Portland Pigs D2, Tacoma Nomads and the Eastside Tsunami remain in D2. The remaining D2 sides moved from D3.

In the D3 Division, the Seattle Quake has placed their second side in the Division, the 43rd State Crimson Lions were not part of the Division competition this past year and the other clubs/sides remain in the Division.
