NOLA Gold Re-Signs Damian Stevens

NOLA Gold will have Damian Stevens back for the second year of his contract in 2022, as he is signed through the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year old scrum-half, who can also play wing, is 5’7″ (1.75cm) and 160 lbs.

Damian played 629 minutes in 16 matches, starting 5, and scored 32 points (1 try, 6 conversions, and 5 penalty goals) for NOLA Gold in 2021.

Damian was born in Walvis Bay, Namibia. He attended Walvis Bay High School and Hoër Jongenskool Paarl Boys’ High School. He played youth rugby with Western Province from 2013-2016 and was on the WP U19 squad in 2013. He also played for Namibia’s U16s in Grant Khomo Week.

In 2015 he played rugby for the University of the Western Cape, which is located in Bellville, near Cape Town, South Africa. He also made his Namibia National Team debut for the Welwitschias against Kenya on 8 August 2015. Since then he has earned 27 caps (17 starts), most recently against New Zealand on 6 October at the 2019 Rugby World Cup. He has made five Rugby World Cup appearances in 2015 and 2019. In the latter, he scored the opening try against Italy and kicked three penalty goals against the All Blacks. For Namibia, he has scored 46 points.

Damian played for Western Province in 2016 and played in the Currie Cup. In 2017 he played for the Sharks XV in the South African Rugby Challenge. In 2018 he played for the Griquas and for the Boland Cavaliers, before returning to the Sharks XV in 2019. In 2020 he played for the Olimpia Lions, located in Asunsión, Paraguay. The team had one exhibition season match and one regular-season match against Ceibos, a loss on 6 March 2020. He added a conversion in the team’s loss, prior to the Súper Americana Liga de Rugby (SLAR) canceling their season due to COVID-19 concerns.
