The Utah Warriors signed Mick O’Gara for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 21-year-old flyhalf, who is U.S. eligible through his grandfather Martin O’Gara, is 5’11” and 205 lbs.
Mick began playing rugby in 2006 at age 6 with Greystones Rugby Club and then for Pres Cubs in 2011. In 2013 he went to Presentation College Bray and continued to play rugby, his main sport.
Mick has been a multi-sport athlete, having played Gaelic football and hurling for Bray Emmets. He also is an avid golfer, following another grandfather’s passion, John Nestor, who represented Ireland.
Mick played age-grade rugby for Leinster, representing the U17s through U20s. He also played for the Ireland U19s on a tour against France U20s Development in Corsica, where he started at inside center in a win and came off the bench in the second match, a loss. He was also on the Ireland U20s extended Six Nations squad, but with the Covid pandemic shutdown, did not play.
From 2019-2021 he has played in the All Ireland League with St. Mary’s RFC.
Mick comes from an athletic family and has a strong professional lineage. He is first cousins with Johnny and jerry Sexton, professional rugby players, as well as Eoghan O’Gara, who won numerous Ireland trophies for Dulin Gaelic Football Team.
Mick will now add to his family’s history when he joins the Utah Warriors for the 2022 season.
