Austin Herd re-signed Alex Faison-Donahoe for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old wing is 6’3″ and 220 lbs.
Since joining the team in 2018, Alex has earned 17 caps. In 2019 he played 414 minutes in 8 matches, carried 21 times for 240 meters. had 2 linebreaks, 2 tackle breaks, 4 offloads, and made 20 tackles.
Following the season, he played with Schuylkill River in the USA Club 7s Nationals, finishing in fourth place.
Alex is from Portland, Oregon and resides in Austin, Texas. He attended Lincoln High School from 2008-2010 and played basketball, football, and lacrosse. He then attended De La Salle North Catholic High School from 2010-2012 and played football and rugby.
Alex achieved national recognition while at Kutztown University from 2012-2017. He worked as a Student Assistant to the Director of Marketing from 2015-2017, played both 15s and 7s rugby, and was a member of the team’s executive board. He graduated in 2017 with a BBA in Marketing, Spanish for Modern Business, and Advertising.
Alex has a rich rugby resume while at Kutztown. He helped lead the team to two Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship Finals loses against Cal in 2014 and 2015. He also played for the team in 2013. In 2014 the team won the American Collegiate Rugby Conference Championship (ACRC). The team was ranked among the top 10 rugby 15s and 7s programs in the country. He also received recognition nationally as an Honorable Mention All-American 15s player in 2015 through 2017 and was a first-team All-American Sevens player in 2015. In 2015 Alex played with the USA Falcons at the Halloween 7s and in 2016 on the South American tour, as well as at the Rugbytown 7s. He was also part of the Eagles 7s Pre-Dubai Training group.
During the Summer, he played club 7s with the Seattle Saracens in 2015, Cip’d, but didn’t play for the Glendale Raptors (listed on his USA Rugby profile), and played with Schuylkill River in 2017 and 2018. He also has played with the Ramblin Jesters.
Before joining Austin Elite Rugby in 2018, he had a tryout with the Toshiba Brave Lupus. Alex height and speed is an asset for the team on the wing. With the 2019 MLR season having a 16-match regular season, as well as losing National team player for the Americas Rugby Championship, he will see increased playing time.
