Houston SaberCats Re-Signs Max Tacket

The Houston SaberCats re-signed Max Tacket for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old center is 6’0″ and 215 lbs.

During the 2019 MLR season, he played 512 minutes in 12 matches, carried 29 times for 172 meters and made 74 tackles.

Max is from San Luis Obispo, California and attended San Luis Obispo High School. He played football and baseball and graduated in 2009. He earned an Associate of Science Degree in Forestry from Cuesta College, attending from 2009-2012.  He then went to California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo from 2012-2015, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry and Natural Resources, Urban /Forestry with a minor in Geographic Information Systems.

In 2014, Tacket played with the USA Rugby Hawks Sevens at the Serevi Rugbytown Sevens, coached by former USA Rugby Men’s Sevens coach Al Caravelli. He also played sevens while at Cal Poly helping the team to third-place finishes in the West Coast Sevens and the Battle of the Bay. In 2012 he was selected to the second team All California Conference D1A team. The team also was a regular in the D1A rugby 15s playoffs while he was there.

After graduating from Cal Poly, he moved to Sydney, Australia and played with Randwick RFC in the Shute Shield in the 2015-2016 season. He then moved to Auckland, New Zealand and played with the College Rifles Rugby club before playing with Burnaby Lake RFC in the CDI PremireLeague in 2018. He has played with the Houston SaberCats since 2019.
