Old Glory DC Signs Mungo Mason

Old Glory DC signed Mungo Mason for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old flanker is 6’2″ and 223 lbs.

Mason was born in Carluke, Scotland, which is outside of Glasgow, and moved with his family to Tauranga, New Zealand when he was two.

Mason attended Tauranga Boys’ College and was captain of the 1st XV rugby side. He also played for the New Zealand Secondary School Barbarian team in 2013. Mungo was selected as the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship recipient to attend the University of Waikato, where he earned a Law and International Management Degree.

He also was a student ambassador and volunteer sports member of the Waikato Academy of Young Achievers. He also was selected to attend the 2016 University Scholars’ Leadership Symposium in Hanoi, Vietnam.

In 2017 he completed his LLB Degree from the University of Waikato while in Chicago studying at Chicago-Kent College of Law. While there, he played rugby with the Chicago Lions in the Midwest Rugby Union Division 1 side. He was then signed to a contract with the San Diego Legion during the 2018 Major League Rugby season.

Following the season, Mungo joined Edinburgh Rugby, a member of Guinness PRO 14, in pre-season 2018/19. He played against Zebre and against the Southern Kings. Mason was also selected to represent the Scotland Sevens team as a core member for the 2018-2019 HSBC World Sevens Series.

From August-September, 2019 Mason played for Ngawha Rugby Club in the Bay of Plenty rugby competition.
