Rugby United New York re-signed Cathal Marsh for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 27-year-old Irish flyhalf is 5’10” and 185 lbs. He will be 28 in January.
Cathal was a key contributor during the MLR 2019 season. He played 955 minutes in 14 matches, scored 1 try and had 69 points. Rooster #10 made 5 linebreaks, 5 tackle breaks, and 18 offloads. He also kicked 55 times for 1822 meters and made 119 tackles.
Cathal had been with Leinster in Pro14 Rugby since 2013 before deciding to transition into Major League Rugby.
The former U-20 Ireland international brought a strong resume to New York, having played for St. Michael’s and St. Mary’s rugby teams.
According to RUNY, Cathal’s creativity on the field caught the eye of the Leinster coaching staff, and the fly-half was brought into the academy side. Impressive performances there, coupled with his strong showings for his school teams, earned him a spot on the Ireland U-20 team for the 2011 U20 Six Nations tournament, and then the 2012 Junior World Cup.
Marsh made his Pro-14 debut for the Leinster side in 2013 and went onto play another 25 times for the club.
