Colorado Raptors Adds Sam Slade

The Colorado Raptors have signed Samuel Slade for the 2020 MLR season. The 22-year old No. 8 is 6’4″, 260 lbs and can also play blindside flanker and second row.

Sam is from New Zealand and attended Mt Albert Grammar School. He played for the New Zealand Schools team on their tour to Australia and was identified as a potential New Zealand sevens player.

In 2017 he was a member of the New Zealand U20s team that won the World Rugby U20s Championship in Georgia. He also played for the Blues U20s and Captained Ponsonby, the Auckland Club Champions that year.

Colorado Raptors Comments

“His ability to call lineouts, play tight amongst the big boys in the middle, keep the ball alive or spread his wings out on the edge makes Sam very useful for us in a number of positions,” Head Coach Peter Borlase said. “We, of course, are looking for versatility in our players, but also those that have the right mentality. The guys who just can’t wait to get in here and go to work are second to none and that’s what I see in Sam.”

“I am keen to get to work and can’t wait to be a vital part of this successful Raptors team as we prepare for the 2020 season,” Slade said.
