Old Glory DC Adds Jason Robertson

Old Glory DC signed Jason Robertson for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. Jason turns 25 this weekend and is a key acquisition at flyhalf for the team. He is 5’7″ and 187 lbs.

Jason is from Mt. Maunganui, New Zealand and attended Aquinas College in Tauranga, graduating in 2012. He then pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning at the University of Waikato in Hamilton from 2013-2015.

He played on the University of Waikato Rugby Club and made his Waikato Rugby Union debut in 2016, making three Mitre 10 Cup appearances as a reserve. While with the University of Waikato Rugby Club, he also played for the New Zealand Universities team.

In 2017 he joined the Tokyo Gas in Japan’s Top East League with the hope that would lead to a Super Rugby contract.

He joined the Bay of Plenty for the 2019 Mitre 10 Cup season and helped the team reach the final against Auckland. This earned the team a promotion fo the Premiership Division in 2020. He also played for Te Puke Sports in 2019.

During 2018 and in 2019, Jason played in the Hong Kong 10s for Biarritz Gavekal, leading them to championships each year.

Old Glory DC Comments

On joining Old Glory, Robertson said, “I’m excited to be joining Old Glory in DC as the team enters its first year in the MLR and can’t wait for a new experience in the states.”

Robertson marks the fourth Old Glory player announced to hail from New Zealand.  Others include Dylan Taikato-Simpson, Gordon Fullerton, and Danny Tusitala.
