Rugby ALT signed Samuel “Rev” Chaney for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old prop is 6’0″ and 275 lbs.
Sam is from Dayton, Ohio and attended Barton High School. He began playing rugby while at Cedarville University in Ohio in 2011 and then transferred to the University of Arkansas, where he continued to play rugby from 2012-2013.
He then felt a calling to pursue ministry and transferred to Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, majored in Christian Studies, and graduated. While at Mid-America, he took a break from playing rugby, served as a youth pastor, was an Interim Pastor at Barton Baptist Church and also coached high school football.
In 2017 Sam attended John Brown University and resumed playing rugby. During 2018 and 2019 he played for the Little Rock Stormers and since Fall 2019, with 404 Rugby ATL in the Americas Premiership Rugby Division 1 competition.
While with Little Rock, he won Man of the Match honors four times. He also toured with the Stars XVs in 2018 against Lindenwood, Dallas, and New Orleans.
Chaney comes to Rugby ATL from West Helena, Arkansas. He is a talented player that uses both brains and brawn and presents a challenge to opponents.
