NOLA Gold Rugby Club re-signed Nick Feakes for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old wing/flyhalf/fullback is 6’2″ and 190 lbs.
Nick played 965 minutes in 14 games during the 2019 MLR season. He scored 4 tries, carried 58 times for 686 meters, made 100 tackles, and kicked 29 times for 841 meters. Following the season, he played with the Kansas City Blues in the USA Club 7s Nationals.
Nick is from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory and then lived in the Philippines and Laos, before returning to Australia.
Feakes attended the Vientiane International School, Campbell High School and then Dickson College when he returned to Australia.
While in Canberra, he played rugby from age 12-18 for the Uni-Norths Owls. Although he was a talented player, he was overlooked for the ACT Brumbies Junior representative team and turned his attention toward looking at scholarship opportunities abroad.
A scholarship to Lindenwood University came to fruition and he attended from 2014 to 2018, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. While there he was the Sports Editor for the Lindenwood student news website and was a journalist for the School newspaper.
Feakes also developed into one of the best collegiate rugby players in the U.S. and was a finalist for the Rudy Schultz Award (National Player of the Year) for 2018. In 2015 the Lions won the D1 National Championship Sevens & the Red Bull University 7s Championship. In both 2017 and 2018, he helped lead Lindenwood to the USA Collegiate National Sevens Championship and was the leading try scorer and the tournament MVP. Lindenwood also won the Collegiate Rugby Championship in 2018.
While at Lindenwood, Feakes also played for the Chicago Lions in the 2016 and 2017 Club Sevens.
Nick Feakes & USA National Team
Feakes was selected to the Collegiate All-American Under-23 team and defeated the 2018 Major League Rugby regular season first-place team, the Glendale Raptors, 55-10. He then captained the Collegiate All-Americans to a third-place finish at the 2018 Rugbytown 7s.
NOLA Gold Comments
When Nick signed with NOLA Gold in 2019, NOLA Gold Rugby Club said “Welcome to the brotherhood Nick Feakes! A talented fullback and 2x Collegiate All American, Nick brings an exciting style of play and unrivaled work ethic. The former Lindenwood University man played club 7s in NOLA following his back to back National Championships and we’re happy to see him coming back in Gold!”
Ryan Fitzgerald, General Manager added for 2020 that “Feakes had an outstanding year for us last season. He was voted by his teammates as our ‘Rookie of the year‘ and it was well deserved.
His versatility and playmaking ability, from multiple positions, makes him a key weapon to our roster. A tough, confident player with innate competitiveness that you need at the professional level.
The future holds a high ceiling for this kid, and we are glad it’s in Gold.”
