Glendale Raptors signed Brendan Daly for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old (29 in Dec.) lock/back row is 6’4″ and 252 lbs.
During the 2019 MLR season, Brendan played 1216 minutes in 16 matches, scoring 3 tries, had 92 carries for 601meters, 156 tackles, and 47 lineout takes. He also had 4 linebreaks, 2 tackle breaks, and offloaded 5 times.
Brendan attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory from 2005-2009 and played football and rugby his Senior year. He then attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2009-2013, earning a B.S. in Business Administration. He was a three-time USA Rugby Men’s Collegiate All-American. The team gained National Championships over BYU in 2010 and 2011, as well as second place in the Varsity Cup in 2013. he also played sevens with the team.
Following the 2012-2013 season, he was also named as a RugbyMag.com Men’s Collegiate All-American.
Before attending Cal and since graduating, Brendan has played with San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club, has served as the team’s captain, and was named National Club Player of the Year in 2016. He also played professionally with the San Francisco Rush in 2016.
Brendan was named to the USA Rugby Selects for both the 2017 and 2018 Americas Pacific Challenge. He debuted for the Eagles (No. 521) against Chile in the Americas Rugby Championship on February 17, 2018, and also played against Uruguay on March 3.
Brendan has played in many high-performance matches. He played in the Pacific Rugby Premiership and the California Cup with San Francisco Gold Gate, with Cal in College, the San Francisco Rush, and with the USA Rugby Selects and Eagles.
Brendan is among a group of athletes playing Major League Rugby who has needed to balance career and rugby demands. He has been a software sales engineer and has been employed in his family’s construction business.
In 2019 he will be wearing the Glendale Raptors jersey, helping the team to solidify the forwards at lock or backrow.
