Rugby ATL signed Chance Wenglewski for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old prop is 6’2″ and 255 lbs.
Chance was loaned to Rugby United New York late in the 2019 MLR season. He played 51 minutes in 2 matches against Austin Elite Rugby and against the Toronto Arrows, carried the ball 5 times for 24 meters, and made 12 tackles.
Following the 2019 season, he played for the USA National team against Canada, Samoa, and Japan and was a member of the extended Rugby World Cup 2019 team and travelled with the team to Japan. During Fall 2019 he played for 404 Rugby ATL in the USA Club Elite Rugby competition.
Chance is from Tulsa, Oklahoma and attended Union High School. He began playing rugby when he was 14 and also played football and wrestling in high school. In football, the team was a two time State runner-up and in wrestling, he was a state champion.
Chance was a High School All-American in rugby and attended Lindenwood University from 2015 to his graduation in 2019. While at Lindenwood, he was a Collegiate All-American, was on the USA Under 20s World Cup Trophy team in 2016 and played in the qualifiers in 2017. In 2016 he toured Queensland, Australia with the Collegiate All-Americans (U23s) and played with the All-Americans again in September 2017 against Oxford University.
he continued his advancement through USA age-grade rugby and played for the USA Selects in 2016, 2017, and 2018 Americas Pacific Challenge. He was a part of the extended Eagles squad for the 2018 Americas Rugby Championship but made his Eagles debut in a non-test match starting against the Maori All Blacks in Chicago on November 3, 2018. His test debut came on November 24 in Dublin against Ireland, who were ranked second in the world. He followed that up with 2019 Americas Rugby Championship matches against Chile and Brazil. Chance is Eagle 531 and his rugby future is bright to extend his test totals from the three tests, so far.
Chance gets his chance to debut for Rugby United New York on May 19 against Austin Elite Rugby and should contribute to the team for the rest of the season.
Chance has played rugby for 9 years, in which time he earned High School and Collegiate All-American honors. He attended Lindenwood University where he played for the Lindenwood University Men’s Rugby Team.
He has toured on several occasions, including at the 2016 U20 Junior World Rugby Trophy and Collegiate All-American tour to Queensland. He also competed in 2016, 2017, and 2018 Americas Pacific Challenge with the developmental Men’s Selects (XVs).
Chance competed with the USA Senior Men’s National Team 🇺🇸 against the Maori All Blacks in Chicago and was officially capped (Eagle #531) in his debut against Ireland on November 24, 2018. He has 6 test caps, his last against Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup on August 10, 2019.
