NOLA Gold Re-Signs Malcolm May

NOLA Gold Rugby Club re-signed Malcolm May for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old (24 in March) back row is 6’1″ and 232lbs.

Malcolm played in two matches for NOLA Gold in 2019 as an injury curtailed his season. He played 41 minutes, had 2 carries for 10 meters, made 8 tackles and had 1 lineout take.

The 22-years-old May is from Chicago, Illinois and went to St. Ignatius College Preparatory School. In high school, he played football as a running back and defensive end. He also played rugby in high school and was honored in both 2012 and in 2014 as a High School All-American. In 2014 the All-Americans traveled to Argentina. In 2014 he also played for the U.S. in the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China in rugby sevens.

After high school, May attended Penn State University from 2013 through 2018 majoring in Rehabilitation and Human Services. In 2017 he was selected to the second team Collegiate All-Americans and in 2018 to the first team. He attended camp for the Men’s Collegiate All-Americans in 2018 and was part of the team that beat the Glendale Raptors.

Malcolm played in preseason matches for NOLA Gold and then in two 2019 matches before an Achilles injury in February ended his season. During Summer 2019 he was an Assistant Coach for New Orleans Sevens Second Side. He also was the team manager for NOLA Gold at the 2019 Rugbytown 7s where the team finished in third place.

Malcolm is back practicing for the last two months and is exciting about contributing to the team in 2020.

NOLA Gold Comments

Ryan Fitzgerald, General Manager indicated that Malcolm May signed an extension with the Gold! “Malcolm was off to a great start last season and developing quickly, before a very tough season-ending Achilles injury in February.

He did a great job all season long and off-season of dealing with adversity and still supporting his teammates. He has remained positive throughout the entire grind back to full health and ahead of schedule for his return.

A tough, physical player that we are excited to get back in the fight.”
