Houston SaberCats Signs Dewet Roos

The Houston SaberCats signed Dewet Roos for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old scrumhalf is 5’6″ and 165lbs.

Dewet was born in South Africa and moved to Sydney, Australia. He attended Endeavour Sports High School in Caringbah, a southern suburb of Sydney in New South Wales. He began playing rugby at age 12 with the Sylvania Bulldogs.

Prior to moving from South Africa, he was a national champion wrestler for his weight class in freestyle and Olympic categories. He continued with the sport for 1-2 years in Australia before devoting his attention to rugby.

He played rugby for Southern Districts in 2014, making it to the Shute Shield Final. He played with the  Sydney Rams in 2015, with the team advancing to the 2015 Buildcorp National Rugby Championship. He also played with the Australian Barbarians from 2015-2019, the Sydney Rays in 2016 and 2017, the ACT Brumbies in 2017, earning 11 Super Rugby caps, and played with the NSW Counrty Eagles in 2018 & 2019. He also played four times for the Classic Wallabies since his debut in 2018.
