The New England Free Jacks signed Owen Hundt to a two-year contract in 2019 through the 2020 Major League Rugby season. He played in all 2018-2019 team exhibition season matches and excelled in the Cara Cup. The 21-year-old flanker is 6’2” and 225 lbs.
Owen attended St. Edward High School and played rugby with Black Pirate RFC. He was a four-time All-Ohio All-Star and a 2016 All-American. In 2015 he participated in the Portugal Rugby festival and during the Summer, played for the Glendale Raptors in 7s. In 2016 he played with Atlantis Rugby in the Las Vegas Invitational and helped the team reach the Finals.
Following his graduation, he attended the Tiger Rugby Academy on a full scholarship for 14 months and played for the 1823 Men’s 7s team during Summer 2016. During the Fall 2016 season, he played for Scioto Valley (Columbus Rugby), which was ranked #1 in the Midwest for most of the regular season. He also ranked third on the team in tries.
In 2017, he was invited to the USA Rugby Under-20s Camp and from March to November 2017 played with the Ponsonby Ponies in Auckland, New Zealand. With Ponsonby, he played with the U20s, was lineout captain, and was awarded Best Team Man. He also was selected for the Auckland U19’s Development Training squad and spent four months training with AKL Under-19’s with Auckland Mitre 10 coaches.
He then signed with Next Generation Sport for the remainder of 2017. He was also invited to Bay of Plenty Under-19’s to play in national U19 Jack Hobbs Tournament.
In 2018 he played with the Glendale Rugby Academy, with the Glendale Merlins, and was part of the MLR training squad. He also played with Tiger Rugby 1823 in the 2018 Las Vegas Invitational. The team played against the Japanese National Team and the French National Development team with former Springbok Sevens player, Frankie Horne, as a coach. He also attended the USA Under-20s camp.
in 2018 he played with the Boston Mystics and was part of the Mystic River 2018 National Division 1 Championship team. Currently, he is playing professional rugby with the New England Free Jacks and has played in the three 2018-2019 exhibition season matches.
Following the conclusion of the 2019 Free Jacks exhibition season, he went to New Zealand to play with the Dunedin sharks RFC and Otago Mitre 10 training squad.
