New England Free Jacks Re-Signs Diego Maquieira

The New England Free Jacks re-signed Diego Armando Maquieira for the 2020 Major league Rugby season.  The 28-year-old hooker is 6’0″ and 245 lbs. He played for the Free Jacks during 2018-2019 exhibition season, including in the Cara Cup.

Ahead of the 2020 season, Diego is playing rugby sevens for Mystic River Rugby Club and will be playing in the USA Club 7s Nationals in Kansas City this weekend.

Diego is from Queens, New York and attended Middlesex School from 2007-2009. He then attended Northeastern University from 2009-2014, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and Business. He played rugby 15s and 7s for the University in the former East Coast Rugby Conference.

Diego also played for the Northeast Academy since 2013, for Stars Rugby 7s in the New York 7s in 2015 and has played for Mystic River in the USA Club Rugby Nationals as recently as in 2018.

Diego has played for Mystic River Rugby Club and was on the 2016 USA Club Rugby Division 1 National Championship winning team. In 2017-2018 he played with the Houston Strikers, who changed their name to the Houston SaberCats. Following the season he returned to Mystic River before playing for the New England Free Jacks in their 2018-2019 exhibition season. He has played in all three matches against the Ontario Arrows, Rugby United New York, and most recently, the Utah Warriors and then in the Cara Cup
