Old Glory DC signed Josh Brown as their first player. The 31-year-old back row is 6’2″ and 245 lbs.
Josh is from Willingboro, New Jersey and lives in Columbia, Maryland. He attended Long Reach High School in Maryland and played football. He then attended Salisbury State University and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. He played rugby at the University for the Sharks and was the team captain for four years. He helped lead the team to three regional championships.
Josh played club rugby with Rocky Gorge and helped the team win USA Rugby Club National Division 2 Championships in 2012 and 2014. In the latter, he was named the Most Valuable Player. Josh has also represented the Capital Selects in 2016 against Stars Rugby XVs.
On December 1, 2018, Josh played professionally for the New England Free Jacks against Rugby United New York. His employment as a firefighter/paramedic in Anne Arundel County precluded his signing an extended contract with the team.
Signing with Old Glory DC allows Josh to be able to juggle his full-time job along with the demands of a professional rugby player.
Josh enjoys giving back to the community by promoting youth rugby. He has coached Howard County Hurricane-Express youth rugby for the last seven years, with the team winning the Maryland State Sevens Final in 2018. Many of his U19 players have gone on to play college rugby.
Old Glory DC Comments
“Josh Brown represents everything we hope to see from Old Glory players,” said Old Glory chairman Chris Dunlavey. “Not only is he a home-grown talent who has achieved excellence on the pitch at every level, but he also demonstrates a set of personal values that reflect the very best of rugby. We could not be more proud to have signed him as our first player ever.”
