Rugby United New York Signs Scottish Premiership Prop Callum Mackintosh

Rugby United New York signed Scottish Premiership Prop Callum Mackintosh for the 2019 Major League Rugby season.

Callum is from Galashiels and lives in Edinburgh, UK. He attended Galashiels Academy and later Edinburgh’s Telford College. He played youth rugby with Gala RFC and then representative rugby Under-16s and Under-18s with Border Reviers.

He then played with Gala in the Scottish Premiership, playing in the British & Irish Cup two years with the club. In 2017 he joined Hawick RFC and also played in the British & Irish Cup. He was also selected for the South of Scotland representative team.

Callum then was on the roster for two matches against the Ontario Arrows and against Boston Mystics during the 2018 exhibition season for Rugby United New York. he then returned to Scotland and played with the Currie Chieftains.

Callum has played both prop and hooker and the latter position provides some cover in case of National team selection or injury for the club. He is an experienced veteran of the Scottish Premiership and will add another talented forward to the New York side in 2019.

“I thought Major League Rugby was really entertaining in 2018,” Mackintosh told us. “It’s great to see rugby taking off in the USA. I’m really excited to return to New York and get started with the lads. I’m looking forward to the experience of living in this city and what it has to offer.”

“Callum is a strong signing that will add a lot of value to not only the front row but the entire organization,” RUNY General Manager James English added. “He has played at some of the highest levels in Scotland, and we expect that experience to translate well into his MLR play.”
