The Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship will be held at Talen Energy Stadium, formerly PPL Park, in Chester, PA, June 4-5, 2016.
The Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships, is the largest annual collegiate rugby sevens event in the world. This is the seventh year of the tournament where leading Collegiate sevens Colleges compete for the Pete Dawkins Trophy. For the first time, the 2016 Men’s Championships will consist of twenty four teams. Twenty of the teams have already been selected with the final four spots earned via qualifiers to be held in the spring of 2016- the Las Vegas Invitational, Big Ten, Atlantic Coast and Southeastern conference championships.
The schools in the 2016 CRC field will be: Arizona, Arkansas State, Army, Boston College, Cal, Clemson, Dartmouth, Drexel, Indiana, Kutztown, Life, Michigan, Navy, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Carolina, St. Joe’s, Temple, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Las Vegas Invitational winner, Big Ten champion, Atlantic Coast champion, and Southeastern Conference champion.
Penn Mutual is in the second year of a title sponsorship for the event, and NBC Sports will once again return as both broadcaster and event partner.
This event also includes a collegiate women’s rugby bracket, National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) national championship, as well as a national high school tournament with both boys and girls teams. Fields for each of those events will be announced in 2016. A Philadelphia Championship is also held between local Philadelphia teams run in conjunction with the CRC, with the winner qualifying for the following year’s main event.
In addition to its CRC sponsorship, Penn Mutual is also title sponsor for The Varsity Cup Rugby Championship. This competition begins April 9 with the Penn Mutual Varsity Cup Final played in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 7.
