Sydney Harmon
Women's Rugby & Sevens Writer · Seattle, Washington · Covering rugby since 2019
Sydney Harmon picked up rugby at a Seattle university club, played wing and scrum-half for six seasons, and still turns out for a local side when her knees allow. She worked in nonprofit communications before moving into sports writing, and since 2019 she's focused on the parts of the game that get the least ink — women's rugby and sevens. Sydney covers the Women's Eagles, WXV, Premiership Women's Rugby and the SVNS circuit, and she's blunt that US women's rugby has been under-resourced relative to its results. She rates Ilona Maher's effect on the sport's visibility but wants the coverage to outlast one player. On the DJC Rugby desk she owns the women's and sevens beats — previews, results, player features and the growth story.
