Cal Hosts Olympic 7s Tournament

“BERKELEY – California carries an 11-0 fall 7s record into the PAC 7s Rugby Championship hosted by the Golden Bears Saturday and Sunday, November 7-8, on Witter Rugby Field. Aiming for a fourth straight conference crown, the Blue and Gold start pool play on day one against Stanford at 9 a.m. PT and continue vs. Colorado at 10:30 a.m., Oregon State at 12:20 p.m. and Utah at 3:20 p.m.

Sunday’s knockout rounds begin at 11:25 a.m. and culminate that afternoon as Pac-12 Networks carries the action live from Strawberry Canyon starting at 1 p.m. PT. The national broadcast will showcase the cup semifinals through the 3:55 p.m. championship final in the same style of the sport that returns to medal contention at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The Bears will be joined by 10 other Pac-12 member universities for a total of 33 matches over two days at the PAC 7s Rugby Championship. Gates open at 8 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Daily tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for youth ages 13-17, seniors and active military personnel; and free for all Cal students and children ages 12 and under.

After the completion of its fall 7s slate, Cal will transition to spring 15s, competing in the Penn Mutual Varsity Cup National Championships prior to the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s before next summer’s Olympic Games mark the return of rugby as medal sport for the first time since 1924.”
