Tiger Rugby is part of a 16 team men’s sevens field of international, national and domestic champions. There are 4 pools, with the top two teams advancing to the Quarterfinals from each. Pool play will take place on day one, with results of pool play determining the final rankings leading into the day two.

Tiger Rugby is in Pool A along with last year’s winner Daveta Rugby (Fiji), Hong Kong (Nat’l Side) and the Ozboks (Australia).

The other Pools are as follows:

Pool B: New Zealand (Developmental), Yamacia (Fiji), Australia (Developmental), Sunnybank (AUS)

Pool C: Aussie Thunderbolts, Redrock (Fiji), Germany (Nat’l Side), Rangataua (NZ)

Pool D: Canada Maple Leafs, Wellington (NZ), Tabadamu (Fiji), Manly (AUS)

The Central Coast Sevens tournament is one of the elite sevens tournaments in the World. It brings many national team players, teams and budding stars to this venue. That is the main motivation in competing.

There are also monetary prizes for the tournament winner, as well as for a number of the top places. The tournament winner will get 20,ooo AUS Dollars, along with an invitation to the Fiji’s Coral Coast Sevens and to the Samoa Independence 7s.

Tiger Rugby features several Eagles players and others that have been part of the USA Rugby High Performance pool. This tournament, as well as the Halloween 7s later this month, provide high performance opportunities for the USA sevens players.

Perry Baker, Pat Blair, Nick Edwards, Ben Latigaga, Mike Teo, and Steve Tomassin have all played for or are current Eagles Sevens players. Zach Pangelinan has been capped for the Eagles XVs, and plays for OMBAC. Rocky Khan, is a former All Black. Ben Latigaga and Matt Tiago are part of the World Class Athlete Program. Viliami “Pila” Huihui has been a cog for SFGG and is currently playing with Columbus and Tiger Rugby. Taylor Howden has also been a vital member of Tiger Rugby along with a newer player who impressed at the Elite City 7s, Aaron Davis.

Paul Holmes and James Walker will have the squad prepared to contend at the Central Coast Sevens. The Eagles coaching staff also has provided some of their own feedback.

The Tiger Rugby squad is a great example of the cooperation that exists with the USA Rugby National High Performance Program. Mike Friday, Chris Brown and Alex Magleby have steered the USA Rugby program in the right direction. They have involved many and Tiger Rugby is an integral part of this process.
