The dedication and opening of Prusmack Rugby Complex on October 8, 2016 was a major event in the history of the U.S. Naval Academy. A banquet was held on Friday night that brought together many alumni together. It is with alumni support that U.S.Naval Academy Rugby continues to grow and proper. The Prusmack Rugby Complex is an example of the support Alumni have played.

Jon Prusmack has been a rugby devotee for decades. He was a Hall of Fame rugby player at the Naval Academy.

He played for Westchester Rugby Club in New York and was a member of the New York Rugby Referees Society. He began the first major rugby publication in the United States, Scrumdown, which later began Rugby Magazine, and is now Rugby Today.

Jon is the CEO of United World Sports, whose properties include Rhino Rugby, the Collegiate Rugby Championship, USA Sevens Rugby (stop on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series), the Varsity Cup Championship, and the Las Vegas Pro Soccer Challenge.

United World Sports have two offices. One in New York City at 49 West 23rd St. 10th Fl., New York, NY 10606 and the other in White Plains, 11 Martine Avenue 8th Floor, White Plains, NY 10606.

The Prusmack Rugby Complex has two state of the art rugby fields, with another across the street. It’s grandstand allows the two fields to be viewed from the top. The fields, and Grandstand have been made possible by generous contributions by Rugby Alumni. The three fields could also support major tournaments in the future.

A dedication ceremony was conducted prior to the Navy Men’s Rugby vs. the University of Notre Dame Rugby team and the Navy Women’s Rugby team against the University of Virginia. All four teams lined up for the dedication, which followed the Honor Guard and ended with the ribbon cutting ceremony.

New HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series Stop in Las Vegas

In talking with Jon after the ceremony, I learned that United World Sports had finalized with World Rugby and USA Rugby to include a stop for the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series at the USA Sevens on March 3-4, 2017. The Women will play all day on Friday, March 3rd beginning at 9am with the Finals on Saturday, March 4th. There will also be broadcast coverage on Saturday for the Women’s Series.

With the addition of the Women’s stop (USA Sevens Rugby) on the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series, the HSBC World Rugby Men’s Sevens Series and the Las Vegas Invitational, Las Vegas is clearly a prime destination for the world rugby community.
