New Orleans Gold Rugby Club re-signed Australia Sevens international and Olympian, Con Foley through the 2022 Major League Rugby seasons. Foley is 26-years-old (27 in September), 6′ 2″, 198 lbs and plays center. He played in all 16 matches in 2019.
Foley is from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. His education includes attending St. Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace from 2002-2009. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the Swinburne University of Technology, where he attended from 2011-2017. He also attended the University of Queensland in 2018 where he is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
Foley played for the Aussie Thunderbolts from 2009-2011 in Noosa and in Samoa and made his debut for the Australian Sevens National Team at the Gold Coast Sevens in 2011. Since then he has earned 43 caps, largely from 2011-2016, with his last at the 2018 Hong Kong Sevens. In the HSBC World Sevens Series, he has played in 234 matches, scored 309 points, and had 61 tries.
Foley also played representative rugby for Australia. He was a member of the Under-19s and the Under-20s, and with the latter, played in the U20s Junior World Championship in South Africa in 2012.
In 2013 he played in the Rugby World Cup 7s with his brother Bernard and scored two tries. In 2014 he was part of the Bronze Medal winning team at the Commonwealth Games. In 2016, he was a member of the Australia Sevens Olympic Team that finished 8th.
After the Olympics, Foley returned to play rugby 15s. He played with the Sydney Rays at fullback in the National Rugby Championship and in 2017 he played with the Waratahs.
In 2018 he played for the Brisbane Roar FC at inside center and joined NOLA Gold Rugby Club in 2019. With the contract extension through 2022, he will solidify a potent team attack.
