Phiadra Knight Joins World Rugby Hall of Fame Phaidra Knight will be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame on November 10, 2017 in Rugby, England. At the ceremony, she will be part of a class of five inductees along with Argentina’s Felipe Contepomi, Al Charron of Canada, Englishman Rob Andrew and Fabien Pelous of France. Knight played stellar rugby internationally at both prop and flanker. Later is her career, she also played hooker. Men’s Eagles Nov. 2017 Tests: Germany & Georgia The USA Men’s Eagles will have a traveling squad of twenty-six players for their match against Germany November 18 at Brita Arena in Wiesbaden, Germany. The Eagles are ranked 17th by World Rugby rankings, while Germany is 23rd. The Eagles will then travel to play 12th ranked Georgia in Tbilisi, Georgia. Roland Suniula – Rugby Reggio Roland Suniula has signed a contract with Rugby Reggio in Emilia, Italy for the remainder of the 2017-2018 season. He will join the team in November. The team plays in the Italian Eccellenza League (Top 10). Suniula last played with the Columbus Rugby Club during 2016-17 and is a Tiger Academy Rugby Coach. Pete Steinberg Leaves Women’s Eagles Pete Steinberg has stepped down as the Women’s Eagles 15s Head Coach after 7 years at the helm. Steinberg assumed the Head Coach position in 2011 and led the team through the 2014 and 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cups, including making the semifinals for the first time in 19 years this past August. Steinberg core team will hopefully compete for the title in 2021. Girl’s HS All-Americans Women’s U18 Sevens Squad for 2017 European Women’s Sevens Championship By Doug Coil The Girl’s High School All-Americans Powered by Atavus return for the second consecutive year to the European Women’s U18 Sevens Championship. Last year they lost 34-24 to France in the finals. This year’s roster consists of returning players Cassidy Bagell, Lolohea Makaafi, Julia Riekena and Kathryn Stowers, while the majority of the team is new. After some early training overseas, tournament play will commence September 16-17th at Stade Darragon. Phaidra Knight Phaidra Knight, the third-most capped Women’s Eagle in history, announced her retirement from international rugby ahead of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017. Knight, from Irwinton, Georgia, began to play rugby after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Alabama State University with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Speech Communications and Political Science. Upon graduation, she pursued a degree at University of Wisconsin School of Law and also began playing rugby.
