Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

The Los Angeles Giltinis drafted Stephen McLeish with the 22nd pick of the Major League Rugby Draft. This selection was gained in a trade with NOLA Gold in exchange for a Gold’s foreign player spot in 2021 with Gold receiving LA’s first-round selection, the second pick of the draft. The team traded their first-round pick, the second selection of the draft to NOLA Gold in exchange for NOLA Gold’s second-round pick, as well as a for a foreign player slot in 2021. San Diego Legion selected Patrick Madden with the 12th pick in the first round of the Major League Rugby Draft. The 21-year-old (22 in December) flyhalf is 5’11” and 190 lbs. Patrick is a San Diego native and was the founder and the 2015 president of his high school rugby club at University City High School. He was recognized as a USA High School Rugby All-American in 2016, played with the USA U19s in 2017, and the USA U20s in 2018. Rugby ATL drafted John Scotti with the 20th selection in the Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft. The 22-year-old center/wing is 5’8″ and 190 lbs. John is from Ormond Beach, Florida. At Seabreeze High School he was a multi-sport athlete playing football, weightlifting, wrestling, and rugby. He began playing rugby in his junior year of High School and following his graduation. Rugby ATL drafted Mike Matarazzo with the 8th selection in the first-round or the Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft. The -22-year-old lock/No.8 is 6’5″ and 230 lbs. The Los Angeles Giltinis signed Blake Rogers for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Blake was interviewed on the MLR Rant and revealed his signing. He previously played with Colorado Raptors and when the team exited the league his MLR contract was dispersed to LA along with 3-4 other players. The Toronto Arrows re-signed Richie Asiata for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old prop/hooker and Arrow #41 is 5’10″, and 255 lbs. In 2020 Asiata started all five matches and displayed his proficiency with the ball in hand, finishing the season ranked second on the team in tackle breaks (3), third in carries (40), fifth in offloads (3), and sixth in carrying meters (198). The Toronto Arrows re-signed Spencer Jones for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. During the 2019 season, he played in 16 of the team’s 17 games, however, he was injured in 2020 and did not play in the truncated regular-season. Kolby played 578 minutes in 14 matches with the Arrows in 2019. He scored 5 tries, carried 57 times for 282 meters, made 2 offloads, and 68 tackles.
