Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

San Diego Legion added Faka’osi Pifeleti in May 2018 and he was a key contributor during the 2019 Major League Rugby season, playing in all matches. Based on his performance, Legion Supporters can look forward to his return in 2020. Faka’osi was born in California and is of Tongan heritage. New Orleans Gold Rugby Club signed Canadian international lock and back row, Kyle Baillie for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old player is from Summerside, Prince Edward Island. He is 6’5″ and weighs 240 pounds. Baillie graduated from Three Oaks High school and played rugby for the Axemen, winning Rugby PEI top junior athlete honors in 2009. Zander is from Pretoria, South Africa and moved with his family to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2005. San Diego Legion signed Dominic Day for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 33-year-old (34 in August) lock is 6’6″ and 256 lbs. Dominic was born in Haverfordwest, Wales and grew up in Lamphey, outside of Pembroke. He attended school in Pembroke and was a discus thrower, as well as playing rugby. He joined the Scarlets Academy at 18 and attended the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, which is now Cardiff Metropolitan University, majoring in sports science. Rugby ATL signed Duncan Van Schalkwyk for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old flyhalf is 5’9″ and 175 lbs. Duncan is from Pretoria, South Africa and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina with his family in 2005. He attended Providence High and played rugby with the Charlotte Tigers, and was honored by North Carolina Youth Rugby Union on their Wall of Stars in 2015. The 25-year-old athlete (26 in August) is from Torrance, California and resides in Santiago, Chile. He is 6’2″ and 253 pounds. New Orleans Gold Rugby Club announced that Canada National Team hooker and team captain, Eric Howard, has signed a 2-year contract extension through the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Blewett was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and grew up in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal. He is 22 years old (23 in August), 5’10 1/2″ tall, and weighs 196 pounds. Psalm Fa’afosia Pulemagafa Wooching is from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and is of Samoan descent. He attended Palm Beach Currumbin State High School and then went to Arkansas State where he played rugby.
