Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

Free Jacks vs. Rugby United New York The New England Free Jacks played their first exhibition season home match on December 1, 2018, against Rugby United New York at Union Point Sports Complex in Weymouth, Massachusetts. RUNY emerged with a 38-35 win in the closing minutes. The exhibition match was played in four quarters with RUNY having a 7-0 lead at the end of quarter one and tied 14 all at halftime. San Diego Legion & Nick Boyer The San Diego Legion has brought back Nick Boyer for his second season with the team. The 25-year-old scrumhalf from Sacramento is 6’3″ and 215 pounds. Boyer went to high school at Jesuit of Carmichael, winning a National HS Championship and graduating in 2011. He then went to the University of California, Berkeley from 2011-2016. San Diego Legion & Anthony Salaber Retraction: New information has surfaced that Anthony Salaber will not be joining the San Diego Legion or any other Major League Rugby team in 2019. He enjoyed his MLR experience in 2018 but has applied to Law School in Sacramento for 2019. The 56-year-old Kelly is from Wakefield, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. Kelly has an impressive rugby resume as a rugby league player and rugby league and union coach. As a rugby league player, he was a loose forward and a hooker. He played for the Dewsbury Rams from 1984-1986 and again from 1989-1991.
