Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

Keni is from Lautoka, Fiji where rugby is a National sport, and attended Lelean Memorial School. He attended Reitz School and began playing rugby union and then switching to Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch from 2007-09, majoring in Business/Commerce. The San Diego Legion signed former Super Rugby fullback Joe Pietersen for the 2018 Major League Rugby season and he helped the team advance to the MLR semi-finals. The 34-year-old, 5’10”, 180 lb, South African back returns to the Legion for a full season in 2019. Joe Pietersen (Johan Christiaan Pietersen) is from Vryheid, South Africa. San Diego Legion signed New Zealand lock Liam Hallam-Eames for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old is from Palmerston North, New Zealand, is 6’6″, and 243 lbs. Liam played rugby with the Horowhenua Kaiti Under-13s, attended and played rugby at Paraparamu College, before transferring to Palmerston North Boys’ High School in 2013 where he continued with the sport. Brad and his brother James grew up in Christchurch, going through St Bede’s College and the Canterbury age-grade rugby system. James also played professionally for Waikato and the Super Rugby Chiefs.
