Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

Seattle Seawolves & Nick Wallace The Seattle Seawolves have signed Bellingham native and former USA Eagle prop, Nick Wallace. He is 28 years old, 6’3″ tall and weighs 260 pounds. Wallace was born in Bellingham, Washington and began playing rugby in middle school with Chuckanut Bay Rugby Club, where he continued to play while attending Squalicum High School. In high school, he also played football and after graduating, he accepted a scholarship to Western Washington University in 2008 to play football in 2008. Seattle Seawolves & LaRome White The Seattle Seawolves have signed University of Louisville prop, LaRome White. He is 23 years old, 6’3″ tall, and weighs 260 pounds. White grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and played football at Eastern High School, where he graduated in 2012. He was introduced to rugby by the Middletown Warriors in 2010 and continued with the sport when he went to the University of Louisville in 2012. Houston SaberCats Play Vancouver Ravens The Houston SaberCats played their second exhibition season match Saturday, January 13 losing 26-23 to the Vancouver Ravens (Preview) in the closing minutes at Constellation Field. Last week the SaberCats defeated the Seattle Saracens 50-7 and were undefeated in five scrimmages in November and December entering the match. The SaberCats defeated the Seattle Saracens last Saturday 50-7 and were undefeated in five scrimmages in November and December. Seattle Seawolves & Peter Smith The Seattle Seawolves have signed Chicago Griffins fly half, Peter Smith. He is 6’0″ and 190 pounds. Smith grew up in the Northern Sydney suburb of Ingleside, New South Wales, Australia. He went to high school at Sydney Grammar School and later attended the University of Sydney. Utah Warriors & Fetu’u Vainikolo The Utah Warriors signed former Otago Highlander, Exeter Chief, and Tonga’ international wing and leading try scorer, Fetu’u Vainikolo. He is 32 years old (33 when the MLR season begins), is 6’0″ tall and weighs 209 pounds. Vainikolo was born and raised in the small Tongan village of Ha’alalo. Seattle Seawolves & Nakai Penny The Seattle Seawolves signed former University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbird, Nakai Penny. Penny was born in Penticton, British Columbia and played rugby throughout high school at Penticton Secondary where he graduated in 2014. That year, the Pen High Lakers advanced to the AAA Okanagan Valley semifinal where they lost to the Salmon Arm Gold 17-12 in overtime. Penny then enrolled at the University of British Columbia in 2014 and played with the Thunderbirds through 2017. He majored in Kinesiology. Houston SaberCats Open MLR Exhibition Season With Win The Houston SaberCats defeated the Seattle Saracens 50-7 to begin the 2018 Exhibition Season Opener January 6th at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas. New Orleans Gold Opens Training Camp The New Orleans Gold Rugby Club opened their 2018 Major League Rugby Training Camp on January 3, 2018.  The members of the team with jobs during the day began their weight room session at the Westbank Athletic Club at 6 am and again at 1 pm. Seattle Seawolves & Connor Weyell The Seattle Seawolves announced the signing of former University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbird, Connor Weyell at lock. Connor was born and raised in North Vancouver, British Columbia (B.C) and was introduced to rugby through his father, who played the sport. He attended Handsworth Secondary School and played both for his high school team, as well as for his local rugby club Capilano RFC. Utah Warriors & Havea Unufe The Utah Warriors signed USA Falcon and Rugby Utah Selects 7s player Havea Unufe. He is 6’1″ tall and weighs 220 pounds. Unufe is from Hilo, Hawaii, but grew up in Provo, Utah with five brothers and one sister. He can turn to older brother Maka about rugby, as he plays for the Eagles 7s and was an Olympian in Rio. Seattle Seawolves & Cam Polson The Seattle Seawolves announced the signing of former British Columbia Bear, Cam Polson. He is 6″4″ tall and plays lock. Polson was born in London, Ontario and moved with his family to Victoria, British Columbia when he was seven. His father was an avid rugby enthusiast and quickly involved his sons playing mini rugby with the Velox Valhallians RFC.
