Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

Rugby New York signed Daquan Perry for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old hooker, who has played back-row, is 5’9″ and 230 lbs. Daquan played club rugby for White Plains from 2020 through Spring 2022, went to USA Club Sevens Nationals in 2022 with Old Blue, and during the Fall played with Rugby HTX in the American Rugby Premiership. San Diego Legion signed back-row Malakai Latu for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. Malakai, who is of Tongan and Samoan heritage, is from Laie, Hawaii. He attended Kahuku High School and graduated in 2017. In 2016 he played in the Pacific Cup earning second-team All-Tournament honors at lock. He has played rugby for Hawaii Marist, attended the World Rugby Combine in 2021, and attended a USA Rugby Academy Camp. The Chicago Hounds signed Michael Baska for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old scrumhalf/fullback is 6’1″ and 185 lbs. Michael joins Chicago after playing with Rouen Normandie in the French Pro D2 league in 2022. In 2021 he played 854 minutes in 13 matches and completed 774 passes with the 2021 Utah Warriors. He had a career-high four tries on his 47 carries, gaining 170 meters on the year (3.6 meters per carry). Mika spent the 2022 season with the Austin Gilgronis but did not see any regular-season playing time. The native of Sydenham, New Zealand attended St Patrick’s College, Silverstream from 2015 through his graduation in 2019 and played rugby for the first XV. The Chicago Hounds signed Malaysian international Dinesvaran ‘Duke’ Krishnan for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 34-year-old lock (35 in May) is 6’5″ and 260 lbs. Duke grew up in Sungai, Petani, Kedah, Malaysia before moving to Penang for secondary school. He began playing rugby at age 13, representing the school and district. He then concentrated on playing soccer and volleyball for the remainder of high school before resuming rugby after graduation in 2007. The New England Free Jacks signed Kieran Mcclea for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old scrumhalf is 5’8″, 181 lbs. and is from Ashburton, New Zealand. Kieran attended Waitaki Boys High School, and then the University of Otago from 2017 through his graduation with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Economics and Management. He played rugby at the University of Otago and played provincial rugby with North Otago in 2018 and New Zealand Universities in 2021.
