Major League Rugby is a professional USA league that began in 2018 and has teams in the U.S. and in Canada. Current MLR teams include Austin Elite Rugby, Glendale Raptors, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Rugby United New York, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, and the Utah Warriors. In 2020, teams in Atlanta, New England, and Washington, D.C. will join the league and have exhibition matches in 2019.

The Seattle Seawolves signed Canadian international Karsten Leitner for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old wing is 6’1″ and 210 lbs. Karsten is from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and attended St. George’s School from 2008-2013. He played First XV rugby, First XI soccer, and varsity squash. He attended the University of British Columbia from 2013-2016 majoring in political science and government. He also played for the Thunderbirds Rugby Club, BC Premiership League Championships from 2013-2015, and back-to-back 7s titles at the Las Vegas Invitational. The Utah Warriors added Danny Christensen for the 2020 season. The 30-year-old scrum-half (31 in May) is 5’9″, 175 lbs. and is from Salt Lake City, Utah. Dan has been signed from the Selects training squad on a 4-week MLR contract after serving as Captain for the Warrior Selects during the Fall of 2020. Dan attended Olympus High School and played rugby for the Highland Rugby Club. In 2008, the team won the high school national championship and he was named the MVP. The Seattle Seawolves signed Eagle No. 418, Setareki “Seta” Tuilevuka, for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 39-year-old center is 6’0″ and 215 lbs. Seta, who is from Suva, Fiji, played rugby as a youth along with his brother Alipate, another former Eagle and the current Director of Seattle RFC. He also played basketball in the 2005 South Pacific Mini-Games. NOLA Gold added Wilhelm Johannes ‘Hanno’ Dirksen for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Hanno, who is 30 years of tomorrow, is 6’0” and 215 lbs. Hanno was born in Krugersdorp, South Africa, and played with the Blue Blues U12s and U13s. His family emigrated to the United States when he was 15, and lived in Nashville, Tennessee. The Utah Warriors added Mika Kruse through the 2022 Major League Rugby season after a trade from the LA Giltinis. The 22-year-old center/wing (23 in June) is 6’1″ and 220 lbs. Mika played 400 minutes, starting all five matches on the right-wing, and scoring two tries for the Colorado Raptors in 2020. During the 2019 season, Mika played 870 minutes in 14 matches, starting 11, and scored 3 tries. He also carried the ball 76 times for 722 meters and made 60 tackles. San Diego Legion signed Chris Schade for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old hooker/prop (31 in May) is 5’10”, and 250 lbs. Chris satisfies the team’s needs for coverage at hooker, with Dean Muir and Pete Malcolm the only other players at that position. The Seattle Seawolves added Gavin Prentice from their 2021 extended roster. The 20-year-old prop (21 in June) is 6’0″ and 260 lbs. Gavin is from Seattle, Washington, and began playing youth rugby in elementary school with the Rugby Washington club,  Eastside Lions, and also participated in Atavus Rugby camps. NOLA Gold defeated the Major League Rugby Eastern Conference leaders Rugby United New York 51-28 at the Gold Mine on Airline on Saturday, March 27. NOLA Gold picked up a bonus-point win and have 8 points in the standings with a 1-0-1 record. Rugby United New York also had a bonus point in the loss and have 6 points, with a 1-1 record. Seattle Seawolves signed James Malcolm for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old hooker/prop is 6’2″ and 236 lbs. James was originally signed by the Dallas Jackals for the 2021 MLR season, however, when the team postponed entering the league until 2022, he became a free agent and now joins the Seawolves. Rugby ATL added Manasa Saulo for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 31-year-old tighthead/loosehead prop (32 in April ) is 6’0″ and 290 lbs. Manasa is from Wainawaqa, Naitasiri, Fiji, and attended Ratu Sukuna Memorial School, and Lelean Memorial School.
